Developed by the German company SAP SEP, SAP Enterprise Resource Planning software is a robust business management solution that incorporates all operational aspects within an organization under a single integrated system. As of 2015, it is the world’s most widely used enterprise application software among large companies - as measured by revenue and customer base around the globe. Despite SAP ERP market leadership in the large organizations market niche, lately it has made substantial headways among Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) mainly through the slightly scaled down Business One, Business All-in-One and Business ByDesign specialized product lines.
Over the years, SAP ERP has positioned itself as a true worldwide solution provider with functionality supported by 45 standard country versions and eight add-on country editions. Its scalability means thousands of concurrent users across multiple locations can log into the system and work as if under a single office room. The system covers all business processes including; financial module (General ledger, Financial reporting, Management Accounting and Financial Supply Chain Management), operations module (Quality Assurance Management, Materials Management, Production Planning, Sales & Distribution and Logistics Execution ) Human resources management module (Payroll and online recruiting).
When deployed with all the components of SAP business suite, SAP ERP offers by far the most seamless business processes integration. Once implemented, Stand-alone applications interfaces are reduced across different sections of an organization thus making information easily accessible from a single terminal. Another key feature of SAP ERP is its expandability. It can be bought modularly for discrete functions such as the financial or human resources units and upgraded gradually alongside the company’s expansion objectives and budgetary concerns. This enables even smaller organizations afford the system which has over the past been viewed as being very expensive and involving a lot of down-time during implementation or upgrading.
In my role as an administrator, I successfully set up this software for a small business of up to 50 users. I even programmed some modules independently and seamlessly integrated them with SAP BO, demonstrating the software's adaptability and compatibility.
With SAP ERP, I can easily track my working hours, fill out my timesheets, and manage my vacation time, among other basic project needs. It has streamlined many aspects of my work and made it more efficient.
The Average Wheelhouse score for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) category is 8.1
