This is a very wonderful system. We use it mainly for data modelling, generating reports, etc. and their client support is exceptional. However, despite the many stated cons, they’re mostly experienced by developers.
If the requirements are simple, it is easy to drag and drop reports, support and community are great, has an adaptable and robust BQL, using the API is simple, writing scripts to automate common roles is possible, and methods of processing data are both simple and complicated. Also, a section of the Admin tool has greatly eased troubleshooting reports thanks to the ability to view the BQL and final SQL query making it extremely simple to locate issues.
It’s not possible to copy and paste items. Copying dashboards and implanted reports isn’t possible. A few admin roles can’t work together with one another. For the admin monitors/screens, they work with FLASH. You can’t manage to have wonderful looking reports if you have needs for ADA approved readability as the fonts are small/medium/large and scrollbars, etc. will be on everything…etc.
Creating transformations is simple thanks to the drag and drop functionality, ability to fast and efficiently analyze data from many sources, tasks can be scheduled so that they run precise tasks and transformations at a particular time.
Understanding how to operate the software is quite time consuming because there are many parts involved and can be quite slow or get into memory problems for larger queries.
A new product that needs to enhance some items
Inexpensive, plenty of features to enhance the time to make the tasks operational, and incredible performance in assembling data, security and probability of learning.
Not so intuitive, no option to paste some data, and as times features don't function as initially advertised.
I really fancy using Pentaho but the lack of features made me opt to use other products such as Tableau.
